The RN in the Intensive Care Unit manages the nursing care of critically ill patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:

In early January of 2009, we opened the Neuroscience Center, as part of our growing Spine Care Center program providing a new level of care for the community featuring treatments for brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, spinal disorders and more. Other recognitions include being named One of America's Top 100 Hospitals, five times, and a Top 100 ICU by Solucient, Inc. and numerous recognitions for clinical excellence. Additional certifications include

Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center. CyberKnife Cancer Center at Brandon Regional Hospital will be opening in the early part of 2009 offering a non invasive way to treat cancer and will round out our Oncology program that includes breast care and prostatectomy.

The VP of Quality/ Risk Management/ Infection Control is responsible for the following:

  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the organizational wide direction and facilitation of performance assessment, reassessment, development and implementation of the Quality/Performance Improvement program in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Utilizes, integrates, and interprets data to assist organization in its improvement efforts, and promote optimal patient outcomes. Works collaboratively with Senior Management to develop strategic quality initiatives.
  • Leads organizational performance efforts for JCAHO, core quality measures, COP and regulatory and all other accrediting and regulatory agencies. Ensures compliance with JCAHO, and all legal, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements are met.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for organizational wide occurrence reporting system; analyzes and reports trends and identifies appropriate interventions to reduce risk and liability to the organization.
  • Develops and implements educational programs for employees, medical staff and board members on analysis of risk assessment, historical and concurrent occurrence and claims data and national trends.
  • Facilitates and directs organizational wide risk management program to ensure compliance with statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards of professional organizations, i.e., JCAHO, OSHA, etc.
  • Participates in and provides leadership for organizational disaster preparedness and patient safety initiatives.
  • Applies the principles of continuous quality improvement in delivery of services, through measuring, monitoring and assessing risk management processes and systems.
  • Acts as an active member of peer review committees; analyzes cases and outcome data and collaborates with physicians to promote and improve practice and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and reports trends in occurrences to staff quarterly. This information is used to improve patient safety. Addresses patient safety in the Performance Improvement Plan.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Post Graduate Degree in Nursing or Healthcare related field required or in process
  • Minimum 5 years of hospital Quality leadership experience
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations
  • Current Florida licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) OR CHCQM (Diplomate in American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians) Individuals without CPHQ or ABQUARP will be granted a 12 month grace period to obtain.

In early January of 2009, we opened the Neuroscience Center, as part of our growing Spine Care Center program providing a new level of care for the community featuring treatments for brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, spinal disorders and more. More than 60,000 deliveries have occurred at the Women's and Children's Center, one of the largest obstetrical services in Hillsborough County. We feature a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Other recognitions include being named One of America's Top 100 Hospitals, five times, and a Top 100 ICU by Solucient, Inc. and numerous recognitions for clinical excellence. Additional certifications include Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center. CyberKnife Cancer Center at Brandon Regional Hospital will be opening in the early part of 2009 offering a non invasive way to treat cancer and will round out our Oncology program that includes breast care and prostatectomy.

The Dialysis RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:

Brandon Regional Hospital has more than a 30-year tradition of expanding medical programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Today, the hospital is a 407-bed acute care facility offering a number of specialty services including the Heart & Vascular Center, where the latest in cardiovascular surgery and minimally invasive techniques are performed. The hospital was recently named a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Cardiology Center for cardiac care. In early January of 2009, we opened the Neuroscience Center, as part of our growing Spine Care Center program providing a new level of care for the community featuring treatments for brain and spinal tumors, epilepsy, spinal disorders and more.

The RN Case Manager works with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team to develop a plan for each patient from admission to discharge.

The tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Performs continuous assessments and evaluations to ensure patient is progressing towards desired outcomes.
  • Assesses and responds to patient/family needs by coordinating efforts of other team members.
  • Identifies and resolves barriers that hinder effective patient care.
  • Collaborates and consults with physicians on patient's progress and discharge planning needs.
  • Performs utilization review ensuring admissions meet criteria for appropriateness of care and medical necessity.
  • Manages the process to review and, as appropriate, appeal denials received from payors.
  • Coordinates the discharge planning process ensuring involvement of all members of the healthcare team. Counsels with patients and family members in decision making and in meeting psycho social needs of the patient.
  • Maintains knowledge of resources and facilities available to patients and family members.
  • Collaborates with personnel at other facilities to coordinate smooth and effective patient transfers and transitions.
  • Compiles, evaluates, and reports statistics to members of the team and utilizes the information to facilitate process improvement activities.
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

  • Current licensure as an RN
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • CCM/ACM preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 yrs case management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of CMS guidelines and experience working with payer specific guidelines and contractual rules preferred.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision meeting firm deadlines.
  • Assertive and persuasive communication skills, action oriented.

The CNO/Chief Nurse Executive directs the delivery of patient care, treatment, and services. The CNO is responsible for the development of hospital-wide patient care programs, policies and procedures, development and implementation of the hospital's plan for the provision of patient care, and implementation of an effective an ongoing program to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of patient care.

General responsibilities includes assisting in the overall management and implementation of patient care plans consistent with hospital policies, objectives and standards for measurement and maintenance of quality patient care. Additionally participates in the development of new educational and research programs for expansion of nursing and patient care services.

Functions at the senior leadership level to provide effective leadership and to coordinate leaders to deliver patient care, treatment and services.
Has the authority to speak on behalf of nursing to the same extent that other hospital leaders speak for their respective disciplines, departments or service lines.
Assumes an active role with the hospital’s governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders in the hospital’s decision-making structure and process.
Participates in defined and established meetings of the hospital’s corporate leaders (when such leaders exist) and with other senior clinical and managerial leaders.
Coordinates the development of hospital-wide plans to provide patient care, treatment, and services.
Coordinates the development of hospital-wide programs, policies, and procedures that address how patient care needs of the patient population (i.e. pediatric, geriatric, adult patients) are assessed, met and evaluated.

EDUCATION:

The nurse executive is a licensed professional registered nurse qualified by advanced education and management experience

The nurse executive possesses a postgraduate degree in nursing or a related field; or the knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree or a written plan to obtain these qualifications.

(Note: A related field may include health care administration or business administration).

Notwithstanding the previous statement, as of 07-20-11, a Bachelors of Science Degree in nursing is the minimum education requirement for all new hire CNOs.
