The IMC is a 22 bed unit which opened December 15, 2011 with State of the Art GE monitoring equipment/Hill-ROM Sport Beds. 8 of the 22 beds are swing beds and have fixed monitoring which means an additional 8 ICU beds. All beds are telemetry capable. The nurse to patient ratio is 3:1/4:1 for the IMC - 2:1 for the ICU beds when in use. The unit boasts of high inpatient satisfaction scores.

5 Central is a 30 bed Medical / Surgical Unit. This unit admits a very diverse population of patients. The patient population includes oncology, orthopedic, urology, cardiac and medical-surgical patients. RNs on this unit must considers principles of death and dying when caring for terminally ill oncology patients. Provides emotional, spiritual, religious and cultural support to patients and their significant others. The RN will apply the principles of orthopedic nursing and become proficient various types of tractions, casts, splints and with various orthopedic surgeries.
Principles of urological nursing will be applied when caring for that type of patient. The RN will become familiar with various urological catheters and various urological surgical procedures. Registered Nurses on this unit will apply principles of cardiac and medical-surgical nursing in providing patient care.

The CVRU is an 8 bed cardiac speciality unit for recovering CABG/OH and other C-V/Cardiac patients. The nurse to patient ratio is typically 2:1 and the unit averages 240-250 admissions per year. The unit boasts of specialty equipment such as Datascope IABP/CentriMag VADS/Vigilence II CO/CI monitors.
PICC Services: PICC nurses for insertion of PICC lines/responsible for maintain all central line dressings

Position Summary:
The BMT Coordinator is responsible for assessment of needs, education, and coordination of the care of BMT and certain Blood Cancer patients and their families require throughout the disease process. The coordinator will communicate all aspects of the plan of care with patients, families, and other members of the Transplant Team, other health care providers, and payors.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Monitors patient/family before, during and after transplantation for physical, emotional, psychosocial, and financial needs and intervenes when appropriate. Refers patients to members of the BMT team (chaplain, counselor, nutritionist, oncology support team, and financial advisors) as needed, and/or utilizes community resources when appropriate.
2. Coordinates the patient and donor pre-admission work-up and visits. Gathers and reviews all pertinent clinical information (including past treatments and outcomes) and presents this to the transplant physician with special notes to abnormal results.
3. Collaborates with direct health care providers to establish plan of care, facilitates continuity of care across departments (both in-patient and out-patient) within hospital and home health providers. Coordinates all services for BMT and targeted Blood Cancer patients, and oversees National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) processes as needed.
4. Coordinates the transfer of patient care from Blood and Marrow Transplant Program back to referring physician and is responsible for long-term follow-up, which includes but is not limited to: periodic updates on patient condition, coordinating follow-up visits with Blood and Marrow Transplant physician and referring physician, and coordinating provision of post-discharge necessary services.
5. Educates patients, their families, and donors to assist understanding of the disease, and processes and procedures surrounding pre- and post-transplant issues. Acts as a resource for members of the interdisciplinary team on transplant care and protocols to promote positive outcomes for BMT patients.
6. Communicates with interdisciplinary team members, patients and families, and payors in a timely manner to ensure comprehensive documentation.
7. Performs admissions and continued stay reviews as needed.
8. Acts as an advocate for patient’s benefits. Manages outpatient drug benefits. Investigates formulary and obtains overrides if needed. Identifies need for indigent drug program and coordinates the application process.
9. Keeps current on requirements mandated by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), NMDP, and other regulatory bodies, monitors compliance.
