Senior Practice Leaders are responsible for development, execution, and ongoing management of various corporate HIM operations and technology initiatives. They serve as the primary liaison between the Parallon corporate office and its eight regional operations centers, which centrally support approximately 170 acute care facilities across an integrated health system.

This role provides tactical support, leadership, subject matter expertise, and strategic guidance across a variety of functional areas in HIM. The Senior Practice Leader has no direct reports but provides leadership and matrix management of various team members assigned to their respective projects.


  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Nashville, TN metro or surrounding area (relocation assistance available)
  • Associates and/or Bachelors degree in an area like HIM, Informatics, Business Administration, IT, or Organizational/Change Management
  • Knowledge in at least one or more of the following areas required: Coding, Document Imaging, MPI, ROI, Deficiency Management, Data Requests, Record Retention/Destruction, Revenue Cycle, HIPAA Privacy, EHR/EMR, Electronic Information Management, Computer Assisted Coding, Implementing a Healthcare Enabling Technology, Process Improvement, Work Flow Technology
  • 3 years of recent management/leadership experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong initiative with ability to prioritize and work independently

Develops and deploys standards, policies and procedures, best practice models, orientation and training, tools, resources, and various educational materials to support coding operations. Responsibilities include assisting the Director in root cause analysis of coding quality issues and preparing training documents to assist with coding quality action plans. The Coding Quality Education Manager may provide subject-matter expertise for Parallon Business Performance Group HIM. Provide training classes, as required/needed, for coding quality trends, as well as, new initiatives. Manages internal education and transition program supporting increased skillset from one level of coding to another.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist HSC Coding departments with curriculum development
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly quality reports
  • Apply adult learning concepts when developing, delivering or assisting others for educational programs
  • Perform an annual education needs assessment as input to the strategic coding education program
  • Manages the education transition program and serves as the primary point of contact and information source to internal customers as well as external vendors
  • Coordinates program team communication and status reporting
  • Process facilitation of candidate application, letter of commitment and logs candidate status events into the program tracker for the transitions program
  • Skills and behavior assessment provisioning, processing, and results communication
  • Responsible for providing skilled coding support through regularly scheduled coder meetings and as the need arises
  • Works with Vendors and students to design education plans Responsible for coordinating class setup and orientation
  • Acts as a mentor/coach to various students within coding programs implemented by Parallon
  • Teaches classes and assists others in a classroom and work setting
  • Responsible for coordinating and facilitating candidate internships
  • Work on special projects as assigned to support department operations
  • Functions independently in executing projects including prioritization, scheduling, monitoring of project deadlines, assisting with development, and deployment of deliverables to support department operations
  • Provide high level of customer service to internal and external customers

EDUCATION
  • Undergraduate degree required, Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in areas such as Health Information Management
  • Relevant experience may substitute education preferences
EXPERIENCE
  • Proven work experience in areas of coding education and managing projects strongly preferred
  • Relevant education may substitute experience preferences.
  • At least one year in a manager position is preferred

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Preferred
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Preferred
  • AHIMA ICD-10 Trainer, Preferred
